LG says its “Dream OLED” tech is ready for mass production
LG has unveiled the final piece of the “Dream OLED” tech puzzle
LG Display has become the first company to verify the “commercialisation-level performance” of blue phosphorescent OLED panels on a mass production line. This will allow LG to deliver “Dream OLED” performance, with phosphorescence for all three primary light colours (red, green, and blue).
While more complex on a technological level, phosphorescent OLEDs deliver better results than fluorescent OLEDs. Fluorescence has a luminous efficiency of 25%, while phosphorescence has a luminous efficiency of 100%. That means it can deliver the same levels of lighting performance with 25% of the power. This enables increased energy efficiency.
LG’s new Hybrid Tandem OLED technology uses phosphorescent Blue OLEDs for its top emissive layer. Overall, this change can reduce screen power consumption by 15%. This reduced power draw will likely lower heat buildup within LG’s new OLED panels, likely resulting in increased longevity.
The successful commercialisation of blue phosphorescence technology, which has been called the final piece of the ‘dream OLED’ puzzle, will become an innovative milestone towards the next generation of OLED.

LG is likely to showcase its first blue PHOLED (Blue Phosphorescent OLED) displays this month at Computex 2025. With this new technology, LG will likely be able to achieve higher levels of image quality with its latest displays. It will also be interesting to see if this tech will result in brighter OLED TVs from LG and other manufacturers.
