Nvidia confirms End-Of-Life plans for its Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPUs

Nvidia’s getting ready to drop support for Windows 10 and its legacy graphics cards

It’s official, Nvidia is dropping support for its Maxwell, Pascal and Volta series graphics cards. The last Nvidia Game Ready driver will be released for these graphics cards in October 2025, coinciding with Microsoft’s end of life for Windows 10.

Moving forward, Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta series GPUs will receive quarterly security updates. This support will be available for three years (Until October 2028). No new “Game Ready ” optimisations or new features will be added to Nvidia’s legacy GPUs during this time.

This move impacts Nvidia’s GTX 900, GTX 10, and Titan V (Volta) graphics cards. All of these GPUs are old by today’s standards and are becoming increasingly uncommon. Regardless, many gamers still use these GPUs. This is especially true for Nvidia GTX 10 series Pascal GPUs.

Support Plan For Maxwell, Pascal & Volta Architecture GPUs, and Windows 10

After a final Game Ready Driver release in October 2025, GeForce GPUs based on Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures will transition to receiving quarterly security updates for the next three years (through October 2028). Our support lifetime for these GPUs reaches up to 11 years, well beyond industry norms.

Also, we’re extending Windows 10 Game Ready Driver support for all GeForce RTX GPUs to October 2026, a year beyond the operating system’s end-of-life, to ensure users continue to receive the latest day-0 optimizations for new games and apps.

Regarding Windows 10

Nvidia plans to support Windows 11 with its new GPU drivers until October 2026. While Nvidia claims that this is one year beyond the OS’ end of life, it is worth noting that Windows 10 users can extend their OS’ support for an extra year for free. While Nvidia’s statement is technically correct, PC gamers who want to stick with Windows 10 for a little longer can. Simply put, Nvidia needed to support Windows 10 until October 2026. If they didn’t, there would be a lot of complaints from Windows 11 avoiders. After October 2026, Nvidia GPU users will need to move to a new OS.
