Nvidia destroys the competition and achieves the highest GPU market share of its history

Nvidia dominates the GPU market with 90% GPU market share

According to a new analysis from Jon Peddle Research, Nvidia has increased its GPU market share to 90%, making the company dominant over its competitors.

Over the past quarter, Nvidia’s market share has increased from 88% to 90%. This time last year, Nvidia’s market share was 82%. This has caused the market share of Nvidia’s competitors (primarily AMD) to collapse from 17% to 10% over the same timeframe.

Overall, GPU sales have dropped by 7.9% year-over-year. This is due to the upcoming launch of next-generation GPUs from AMD and Nvidia in early 2025. Many PC gamers are forgoing upgrades.

Nvidia’s domination of the PC GPU market is concerning. Monopolies are never good for consumers, but both AMD and Intel are aiming for market share with their upcoming GPU launches. Intel promises more performance and lower pricing than Nvidia with its new ARC B570 and B580 GPUs. Furthermore, AMD has also stated that market share is its priority with RDNA 4.

Intel and AMD face an uphill battle to gain market share from Nvidia. Nvidia is dominant, and that means that PC games are made with Nvidia GPUs in mind, a factor that makes it harder for smaller companies to compete. Will Nvidia lose market share in 2025?
