Nvidia issues firmware fix for RTX 5060/5060 Ti Black Screen and Reboot issues
Nvidia has issued a UEFI firmware fix for its RTX 5060 series products. Some users face Black Screen and reboot issues when using RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards with “certain legacy motherboards.” Now, users of these GPUs can update their firmware to address these issues.
This fix arrives less than a week after Nvidia’s RTX 5060 graphics card launched and impacts Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti. Nvidia has issued a series of workarounds that will allow users of affected GPUs to reboot their systems and update their graphics cards.
Below is what Nvidia had to say on its support website.
NVIDIA GPU UEFI Firmware Update Tool for RTX 5060 Series
To ensure compatibility with certain motherboard SBIOSes, an update to the NVIDIA GPU firmware may be required. Without the update, GeForce RTX 5060 series cards in certain legacy motherboards could experience blank screens on reboot. This update should only be applied if blank screens are occurring on reboot.

The NVIDIA GPU Firmware Update Tool will detect whether the firmware update is needed, and if needed, will give the user the option to update it.
If you are currently experiencing a blank screen during reboot, please try one of the following workarounds in order to run the tool:
– Completely power down your system before booting
– Ensure you are using the latest SBIOS from your motherboard vendor
– Ensure you are in UEFI boot mode and not Legacy/CSM
– Boot using an alternate graphics source (secondary card or integrated graphics)
– After powering on your system, wait for your operating system to load with the graphics driver installedOnce you have the tool downloaded, please run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions. Ensure all apps are closed before running the tool and make sure no OS updates are pending in the background.
If you are experiencing issues in Legacy/CSM boot mode, and your motherboard does not support UEFI boot mode, please contact customer service of your graphics card manufacturer for a legacy VBIOS update.

Since Nvidia refused to supply reviewers with drivers ahead of launch, we have been unable to publish a review for Nvidia’s RTX 5060. Nvidia launched its RTX 5060 while much of the tech press was at Computex 2025. This prevented most of the media from testing Nvidia’s newest graphics card in a timely manner. This also prevented RTX 5060 purchasers from learning how powerful Nvidia’s newest GPU was before it became available to purchase.
The need for this new firmware fix is another stain on Nvidia’s RTX 5060 launch. Thankfully, not all RTX 5060 series users need to update their GPU’s firmware. Only those affected by black screen and reboot issues should update their graphics cards.
