Rumour has it that Nvidia plans to refresh its entire RTX 30 series lineup, releasing new models with a built-in Ethereum mining limiter and Resizable BAR support. Headlining its updated RTX lineup is Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti, a new graphics card model which sits somewhere between Nvidia’s RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 graphics cards.

Videocardz has managed to get a picture of Nvidia’s new RTX 3080 GA102-225 GPU core, revealing that it uses the same silicon as the RTX 3080, albeit with more enabled CUDA cores and memory channels. Videocardz has also stated that Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti is “definitely coming” and that Nvidia will launch the graphics card “in May”.

Based on these reports and corroborating leaks from other sources, Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti will feature 12GB of GDDR6X memory and 10,240 CUDA cores. If this GDDR6X memory is 19Gbps, like the RTX 3080, these specifications will give the RTX 3080 Ti a 20% boost in memory bandwidth and a 17.6% increase in CUDA core count. These factors should make the RTX 3080 Ti much faster than Nvidia’s RTX 3080 in gaming and productivity workloads.

Videocardz has also reported that early RTX 3080 Ti qualification samples have shipped without Nvidia’s Ethereum mining limiter, allowing early users of the RTX 3080 Ti to test its unlimited mining performance.

After the graphics card’s mining performance was optimised, Nvidia’s unrestricted RTX 3080 Ti has allegedly achieved an Ethereum mining hash rate of 118.9 Mh/s. This was achieved with an overclocked memory speed of 21.4 Gbps and a TDP that was reduced to 278W. Retail RTX 3080 Ti graphics cards should feature limited Ethereum mining performance.

If cryptocurrency miners learn how to unlock Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti graphics card, it will become one of the strongest and most sought after graphics cards on the market. Ethereum mining is incredibly bandwidth-limited, a factor that makes the RTX 3080 Ti’s 384-bit memory bus an incredible feature for cryptocurrency miners. Thankfully, Nvidia plans to limit this graphics card’s cryptocurrency mining performance.
