Ed Zarick, a console modder, has created an Xbox One S laptop, turning Microsoft's latest console into a portable gaming monster.

This console/laptop hybrid has an acrylic shell and is much smaller than Ed's previous console mods, owing this to the Xbox One's lower powered components and the reduction in the size of several major components.

The outer shell of the system is made out of acrylic and the systems display is a 19" Samsung 720p display, with the modder stating that it was extremely difficult to find a higher resolution display in such a small size for consumers. At the rear of the console, all stock outputs remain, including the 4K ready HDMI out, which allows this console to still be used in the living room, and pretty much anywhere else thanks to the integrated screen.

I wanted this new system to have a simplistic and professional feel about it. I did my best to get it as slim as possible using thinner materials where I could, but adding thicker/stronger material in important areas.

This is a technique found in all laptops and I wanted to adapt that. TheXBOOK is made almost entirely out of strong acrylic, although I won’t say its rugged but it is a solid system.

The unit does include built-in speakers at the front of the unit and includes all of the buttons that an Xbox users will be familiar with like the on/off button, controller sync button and the eject button for the unit's 4K ready Blu-Ray Drive.

Above the left speaker, there is also a black joystick that can be used to control the integrated TV as well as the volume of the unit's integrated speakers.

Sadly this unit does not contain a built-in battery as the combination of the Xbox One, monitor and sound system simply consumes too much power in order to build a unit with both a small form factor and any reasonable battery life.

During the design phase, if they rejigged the front panel about to be able to fit a handle on it, I think that would have been epic. It would be an Xbox One S, in laptop form, carried around like a briefcase.Quote
