Releasing older games on modern platforms is a very popular thing to do these days, whether it is a remaster or a reboot gamers do love to reminisce and play their favorite games from the past, much in the same way that film buffs love to watch films again to recapture their favorite movie moments.

Sadly older games and newer platforms do not mix together well, as backwards compatibility is a very difficult thing to achieve, yes Xbox One has just announced Backwards comparability, but it is limited to select titles and the PS4 has not backwards compatibility at all, unless you consider paying a monthly subscription for streaming legacy titles as a worthwhile deal.

Activision has confirmed that they have been considering remastering it's Call of Duty series on Next gen hardware, though right now it is only in the discussion phase, not in development or in any way confirmed. Activision's CEO Eric Hirshberg had this to say, expressing his desire to see the Black Ops and Modern Warfare 1 remastered on modern systems.

"If done well, I think [remasters] can be great," "You talk about nostalgia, and people have such connection to the games they love from the last cycle. They want to see what it would look like if someone did it right for this cycle."

"It's always the opportunity cost," "Meaning we need everybody we can get to make the content we're already committed to for our new games. It's always a matter of finding great people to do that work. I would love to play Modern Warfare 1 or the original Black Ops. There's certainly a deep well there. No announcements, but it's something we talk about and think about a lot."

As I said above the idea of Call of Duty remasters remains only an idea, with no resources being dedicated to it currently or any solid plans to act on this idea.  Right now Activision say that they are committed to their new games, so the likelihood that they would be releasing a Call of Duty remaster anytime son is very slim indeed, though I have to say I am tempted to play COD4 now to see if it still holds up.
