AMD Shows off their Polaris RX 480 GPU running DOOM at 1440p 144Hz

Alleged RX 480 specifications leak online

Alleged RX 480 specifications have leaked online, hinting at GTX 980 like performance at a TDP of under 150W, alongside 8GB of GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit memory bus.

This places this GPU as a clear budget VR GPU, offering performance that exceeds the minimum requirements for VR while also maintaining low levels of power consumption. The leaked slide states that the GPU will be powered by a single 6-pin power connector, meaning that this GPU will be able to draw 150W of power at most, making this a highly efficient GPU when compared to Nvidia's 900 series and AMD's R9 300 series.

These specifications also state that this GPU offers 5.5TFLOPS of computing performance, giving it performance that is similar to AMD's R9 290X.

The slide also confirms that the GPU will support DisplayPort 1.4, HDR and DirectX 12/Asynchronous compute, giving this GPU a clear advantage over Nvidia's older offerings, though it is also clear that this GPU is not going to be a competitor to Nvidia's GTX 1070 or 1080.

Oh no please AMD

Single 6 pin... I'm afraid it's not even going to match the Fury X as I hoped.

I don't want to wait until Vega...Quote

"Look at all these features we have over a two year old upper mid range GPU which beat our asses in power consumption before."
In general i think taking direct shots at the competition in marketing is a bit sad, but when you have to aim at the last generation it's even sadder. Not saying that the RX480 is bad, it'll probably be pretty neat, i just think the slide is pathetic.Quote

When you use the word pathetic in your comment your Nvidia colors are coming out. The slide makes sense if it is going to be priced the same or similar to the cards in the slide. The fact that the 1080/1070 is just being released, they can't have any true comparisons... unless you think Nvidia had been shipping AMD samples to test against, LOL!

They shouldn't compare their product at all with the competition, i'll give anyone flack for doing that. If anything they should compare their new product to the old product it replaces, when a manufacturer tries to make the competition look bad i just lose respect for them. Comparing products from different manufacturers is the job of a third party reviewer, not a biased marketing department.Quote
