AMD and Nvidia are rumoured to be creating specific GPU SKUs for mining

AMD and Nvidia are rumoured to be creating specific GPU SKUs for cryptocurrency mining to prevent shortages of gaming-oriented products.

These new products will come with shorter warranties and lower prices than their gaming oriented products, lacking features like display connectors in order to deliver more affordable pricing. These products will likely not have any gaming ability and hopefully allow GPU stock levels to return to normal in areas where cryptocurrency mining is common.

Videocardz states that Nvidia is planning a new GTX 1060 variant with a GP106-100 GPU design, which has been customised for mining and to offer enhanced price to performance ratio. It is also rumoured that AMD is planning to release a new Polaris-based mining GPU, though these rumours have not been confirmed.

I wonder if these would work as a second card for crossfire / DX12 multi GPUQuote

I'd imagine resell value for special mining GPUs will be a lot lower than for gaming variants. Something to consider at leastQuote

Resale for mining GPUs is very low any way. Unless of course the person lies about it but it doesn't take long to find out. They live a very hard life.Quote

If these new mining cards have no gaming outputs their resale value will be next to nothing.

The above will also have the effect of causing a shortage of gaming cards pushing up prices.

Maybe the reason we are not going to see any Vega cards anytime soon is they have all gone straight to mining (professional cards lol).Quote
