AMD has just released a 3D Model for the R9 Fury X's front plate, allowing you to customize your R9 Fury X to your liking. So if you wanted to add some clear acrylic to the card, add custom 3D Printed front plate or even place an Nvidia logo on your AMD GPU you now have an option to.

AMD will not void your GPUs warranty or in any way disadvantage those who change it, but that does not mean that they will cover any damages that may be inflicted onto the GPU during installation of a custom front plate. AMD also say that they will not provide end users with replacement face plates if they are damaged  or lost.

AMD asks that you will take all necessary precautions prior to removing the front plate from the graphics card; these include but are not limited to:

  • Do not remove the front plate while the graphics card is installed inside a system
  • Do not remove the front plate while the graphics card is powered or operational
  • Ensure your workspace is clear of debris and appropriate electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection is taken
  • The front plate can be removed by removing the four hex screws from the front of the graphics card as illustrated below
    • Do not remove any other screws or modify any other components on the graphics card
  • Use a proper hex key or screwdriver to remove the screws from the front plate to avoid damaging the screws
    • When reinstalling the screws do not to overtighten the screws

It is great to see a company like AMD embrace modding like this, as many other brands would simply say that your warranty is void if you make such modifications to your GPU, though that does not stop most people.

Hopefully this means that we will be seeing some pretty unique looking R9 Fury X GPUs in the near future.
