Official slides for AMD's R9 Nano GPU have been leaked, confirming the GPUs specifications and showing best in class MITX performance. AMD's R9 "Fury" Nano will be using AMD's full Fiji GPU core with 4096 GCN GPU cores, which is a massive chip for such a small GPU, taking up a large section of this GPUs PCB.

This GPU manages to have a TDP of 100w lower than AMD's Fury X GPU, which uses the same number of GPU cores, but the Fury X does so at a higher clock speed. The R9 Nano will be AMD's most efficient GPU yet, having 2x the performance per watt of AMD's previous flagship, the R9 290X, and used the new HBM memory technology to allow this GPU to be created in a tiny form factor.

AMD R9 Nano specification leaked, has 4096 GPU cores

According to AMD's presentation this GPU will have performance which is better than the AMD's R9 290X, with less noise, power consumption and in a much smaller form factor. If what AMD says is true this means that the R9 Fury Nano will have performance which is similar to an GTX 980, but in the form factor which is more akin to a MITX GTX 970 or GTX 960.

When compared to a R9 290X this GPU will be 16dB quieter, consumes 30% less power and a temperatures which are 20 degrees lower. Simply put this is a massive leap for AMD to make in a single generation, let's hope AMD continues to make such strides in the future.

This GPU is targeted at MITX PC builders who want to push the most gaming power into small PCs. With this GPU AMD say that you can have up 30% more performance than a GTX 970, which is the most powerful GPU that Nvidia have available within a similar form factor, meaning that AMD have the best MITX card available today.

Right now we do not know what price the R9 nano will be, but we do expect it to be very expensive for the performance you get. With the GPU using the whole Fiji CPU core, it i expected that this GPU will have a very similar price to AMD's Fury GPU, which costs around £510.

If this price proves to be correct, then AMD will have released a GPU which is around £150 more expensive than competing solutions in terms of performance, which is a very weird situation for AMD. Is the extra cost worth the smaller form factor?

Hopefully AMD's next GPU line won't have so many niche products in it. Cool idea and all but it's just a mITX furyX with a massive power limit.

At this point they need a NEW line of cards which are suitable for all scenarios.
The Fury was bang on to be honest!Quote

They're not going to have many so they can charge what they like. This seems to be echoed in the X/Pro markets too.

AMD needed to find a way to be able to charge stupid money for them and they've found it by ways of using the Cartmanland method.

Not sure if you have ever seen that episode of South Park, but Cartman gets left a few million dollars by his nan, so buys a theme park. He then advertises it on TV with the catch that no one is actually allowed in. This just annoys people and makes them want to come in all the more, so when he does open the gates people don't mind paying a high price to get in.

It's all very psychological, but by having low numbers AMD can get away with charging Nvidia prices. People will either pay it or they won't, but it does assure they get top dollar for their early cards.

Very clever.Quote

True that, but considering it is reported to rival the GTX 980 Ti at £509 it's a nice alternative at near £50 cheaper than team Green.Quote
