AMD Radeon reaches Vega 10 internal milestone

AMD's Radeon Technologies Group has reached a new Vega 10 milestone but AMD's Raja Koduri, the head of the AMD RTG, has admitted that Vega still has a "Long way to go" before it reaches consumers.

Right now our earliest estimates place Vega in the late-2016/early-2017 timeframe, with this internal milestone likely being the production of AMD's first Vega 10 test silicon.

At this time we do not know exactly what AMD's Vega GPU will be, but AMD's earlier roadmaps have stated that the new GPU will use HBM2 memory, likely making this GPU the high-end product that will replace their R9 Fury series of GPUs.

At this time we do not know if AMD will be producing more than one chip with their Vega GPU architecture. With Polaris AMD had decided to make two chips, Polaris 10 for their RX 480 GPU and the smaller Polaris 11 GPU for lower end and mobile products.

Right now it is unclear how AMD's upcoming Vega GPU will perform, especially given the fact that AMD's Polaris architecture is still unreleased.  On AMD's roadmaps Vega promises greater performance per watt than Polaris and should come in a die size and a GPU core count that should provide enough performance for the high-end gaming market.

Right now we are still eagerly waiting to see how AMD's new Polaris lineup of GPUs will perform with RX 480 releasing on June 29th, our review will be live then.
