AMD's Sunnyvale campus may be selling to the Irvine Company for residential developments, meaning that AMD may need to look for a different location for their HQ.

While AMD has been using their 32.5-acre site ever since the 1990s, AMD does not own the site themselves, so this should not be seen as a decline for AMD or that the company is desperate to raise cash.

Right now the Irvine Company is in contract to acquire the Sunnyvale site, where they plan on building hundreds of apartments. Right now AMD is said to be in the market for a 175,000-225,000 square feet site elsewhere in Silicon Valley to place their new HQ, which will be roughly a 30-45% decrease in size.

For AMD this represents an opportunity to enter a new HQ for what may be seen as a new era for the company, one which may bring profitability and increased market share with the release of their Zen based CPUs and their new Polaris GPUs, though at this time it is unknown exactly when or if AMD will need to move from their Sunnyvale site.

At this time, the purchase of the property is not confirmed, so it may be some time before AMD move to a new HQ.
