ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Aura Preview - A look at 3D Printing

Conclusion

The modding scene has always been an integral part of the PC building community, so much so that hardware has evolved over time to incorporate more and more features that are solely designed to improve their aesthetics. You don't need to look very far to find hardware with RGB LEDs these days, or GPUs with backplates and even M.2 SSDs with all black PCBs.

With the Z170 Pro Gaming Aura ASUS has created a motherboard that acts as a blank canvas for modded systems, with ASUS themselves providing PC builders with an all new way to modify their systems through the medium of 3D printing.

The Z170 Pro Gaming Aura provides PC builders with a great motherboard with a modern feature set, with USB 3.1, M.2 SSD support, reinforced PCIe lanes and even RGB lighting at the rear of the board. For the price of around £150 system builders will find very little about this motherboard to criticise, especially if they want to use any of ASUS' 3D printed accessories.

While this motherboard may lack the Republic of Gamers branding it offers the same set of modern features and same high build quality that we associate with the ASUS brand. This makes the Z170 Gaming Aura a great board for any system builder, even those who would usually stick to the premium ROG brand.

In the future, 3D printing will revolutionise the way gamers think about making PCs, allowing everyone to create, modify and share designs online which could be used to do simple jobs like replacing a lost PCIe slot cover to creating entirely custom PC cases.

All-in-all, the ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Aura, offers an excellent feature set and an aesthetic that can suit any system colour scheme or theme and gives us a glimpse of exactly what is possible in the future through the medium of 3D Printing.
