Australian gamers have never had it easy, with excessively high prices and a rating's authority that refuses to treat their own people like adults, refusing classification for many titles despite the fact that they now have an 18+ rating.

Now Australis is set to place a 10% tax on all imported goods, a tax which was previously only applied to imports costing over AU$1000. This tax will apply to all imports, including games, which will make the situation for Australian gamers even more tragic.

"This will deliver competitive neutrality for Australian businesses, and ensure fair and equal treatment of goods and services. If goods and services would have the GST applied in Australia, then the same should apply for goods [bought and imported] from overseas."

Since many digital games services such as Steam are not inside Australia, this means that the cost of even Steam or other digital games will also be getting a 10% price hike, as these are still considered imported goods or services.

This is terrible news for Australian gamers, who are already paying too much for games, thanks to a weak Australian Dollar.

Glad I didn't move to Australia a couple of years ago when I was offered a job over there.

I do feel sorry for those people in Australia.Quote

Well, I'm surprised. I didn't think I could hate this government any more than I already do.
50 bucks says that Labor go along with it like the good dogs they are these days.Quote
