Bethesda announce Quake Champions

Bethesda has just announced Quake Champions, a new multiplayer arena shooter which boasts and unlocked framerate and ultra-fast 120Hz gameplay.

From the new trailer, the game seems to look more like a "Hero Shooter", rather than a traditional arena shooter.

The fast, skill-based arena-style competition that turned the original Quake games into multiplayer legends is making a triumphant return with Quake Champions. Running at an impressive 120hz with unlocked framerates, id Software’s new multiplayer shooter is getting ready to take PC gaming by storm once more.

Quake Champions features a roster of unique characters, each with their own distinctive abilities, allowing you to fight the way you want.

The classes worry me, i mean there is a wallhack in that trailer. Balancing classes for duel isn't going to work well and doom MP is terrible, i'm not convinced the devs know what they are doing. This also is happening way too soon for id to develop it themselves.
On the plus side doom SP was surprisingly good and they've confirmed strafejumping. If there will be mod tools the basis should be good enough to turn this into something decent.Quote

They turned what was a great IP into a heroes, Overwatch style shooter.. poor show ID. Should have kept it true to the original to be fair.Quote

It's unlikely to be like Overwatch. Quake 3 CPMA had a mode called NTF (Not Team Fortress) which was a class based version of CTF and that worked quite well. I wouldn't consider NTF better than the 'standard' gamemodes though.Quote

There might be a gamemode where everyone is locked into the most "vanilla" character; I'm keeping my hopes up for nowQuote
