Civilization VI will reportedly support DirectX 12, allowing the game to make more efficient use of multi-core CPUs and offer several performance benefits. 

It has already been announced that Civ 6 will make use of a new game engine, so it makes sense that this new engine would support one of the modern graphical APIs.

Using a modern graphical API the game can run much more efficiently with Multi-Core CPUs and gain some extra GPU performance by using asynchronous compute and other new features that are enabled by the new API. 

 

Civilization VI will reportedly support DirectX 12

 

At this time we do not know if Civilization VI will be using DirectX 12 exclusively, though it is likely that the game will also support DirectX 11 due to the large potential player base on older Windows-based operating systems. 

Civilization VI will be releasing on PC on October 21st, 2016. Currently,

Makes sense that is will be using DX12. New engine probably been in the works since before DX12 came out, they would have known ahead of time they would implement it. Let's just hope it was built with that in mind rather than patching it in as we know that's not as effective of a solutionQuote
