If you are a fan of small form factor PCs and non-traditional GPU mounting solutions, you will know what we mean when we say that there is little competition within the custom PC market when it comes to PCIe 4.0 compatible PCIe riser cables.

For the uninitiated, PCIe Riser Cables allow PC builders to offset your PCIe connector away from your motherboard and to a different location. This allows many PC cases to place GPU mounts on non-traditional locations, enabling the creation of many innovative case designs, be it from custom fabricators or traditional case builders.

Today, most mainstream PCIe Riser cables support PCIe 3.0 speeds, which is a problem because all current-generation graphics cards support PCIe 4.0 transfer speeds. Thankfully, Cooler Master has revealed their plan to create PCIe 4.0 compatible riser cables under their MasterAccessories brand, bringing some much-needed competition to the PCI Riser cable market.

Sadly, the pricing and availability of these PCIe 4.0 compatible riser cables remain unknown. However, we do know that Cooler Master plans to offer these cables with 300mm and 200mm cable lengths.

With PCIe 4.0 compatible motherboards lacking per PCIe slot transfer speed options, users of older PCIe 3.0 riser cables are typically forced to limit their entire PC to PCIe 3.0 speeds to utilise PCIe 4.0 graphics cards with their riser cables. This is bad news for users of fast PCIe 4.0 storage solutions, though the addition of PCIe 4.0 compatible riser cables should eliminate this problem.

The Cooler Master Riser Cable PCIe 4.0 x16 – is designed for greater data transmission efficiency, maximum flexibility and durability. High quality plastics grant increased cable flexibility and strength for the tightest PCI card installations, while the heavy-duty shielding prevents electromagnetic interference from degrading signal quality. The multi-layer coated PCB provides the best-in-class cable flex, moisture resistance and performance under high thermal loads.

There are few PCIe 4.0 compatible riser cables on the market

Right now, we know of only one company that creates PCIe 4.0 Riser Cables that actually work. That company is LINKUP. For those that need PCIe 4.0 compatible Riser Cables today, we have included an Amazon link below, though we will note that these cables are not cheap. This is why we need more competition within this area of the custom PC market.
