Creative Assembly Details Total War: Warhammer free post-launch DLC

Creative Assembly has detailed Total War: Warhammer's free post-launch DLC, promising new units, heroes, magic and a new playable race.

These additions to the game will be similar to Rome II: Total War's free campaign expansion pack and the release of other additional content in Total War: Attila.  This extra content is intended to reward Creative Assembly's fans and give players more excuses to jump back in and replay the game post-launch.

With both Rome II and Attila we were able to release playable factions, new formats and even a free campaign expansion as a thanks to players for supporting Total War.

The Warhammer Fantasy Battles World is gigantic, and we’re looking forward to exploring it over the forthcoming trilogy. But that incredible cast of characters and monsters also provides us the chance to make lots of interesting Free DLC to support our games over time.

Creative Assembly Details Total War: Warhammer free post-launch DLC

The Total War series has always been known for being demanding, displaying hundreds, or even thousands of units on screen in a single instant and have them battle one to one. Over the years Total War games have often been called unoptimized, not making the best us of available hardware and often suffering from graphical issues or instability at launch.

With Total War: Warhammer Creative Assembly plans on changing things, for the first time making their Engine dedicated to 64-Bit and now have announced that the game will be making use of the DirectX 12 API thanks to a new hardware partnership with AMD.

Creative Assembly has chosen AMD as exclusive GPU partner to bring Total War: Warhammer as a DirectX 12 game to market.

Total War games have in the past been demanding on both the CPU and the GPU, meaning that all of DirectX 12's primary benefits will be utilized, allowing for the game to more easily utilize more CPU cores and reduce CPU overhead, as well as better load the GPUs for greater performance.

Total War: WARHAMMER - PC Specs and Release Date

With several thousand units on screen at one time, we can easily see that DirectX 12's CPU benefits have an opportunity to really improve this games performance on the battlefield. On the campaign may the DirectX 12 API may also help reduce the time taken between in-game turns, in a similar way to how Mantle had affected Civilization Beyond Earth.

Below are the games recently released hardware requirements. Please note that the resolution and expected framerates for the game are given with these specifications, allowing users to gauge how well their PC should perform in this title against these specifications.

In a world that is filled with day-one paid for DLC it is refreshing to see Creative Assembly promise to deliver so much post-launch DLC for free with Total War Warhammer. The promise of a new playable race is a big thing in Total War Warhammer, as unlike previous Total War games this new races/faction will play completely differently to any of the others in the game due to exclusive race mechanics and racial characteristics.

Total War: WARHAMMER will be releasing on the PC platform on May 24th.

Looks to be a lot of opportunities for FLC content. I think the new races and legendary lords will be the best ones as it adds a whole new aspect to the game rather adding onto what's there. Still excited for all of it. Hopefully more frequent than previous games as they typically only did one or two and then alongside dlc, just added units to a specific roster, which was useless without dlc.Quote
