Dark Souls 3 may be locked to 30FPS on PC

Bandai Namco support staff say that Dark Souls 3 may be locked to 30FPS on PC, explaining the rather low PC system requirements for the title.

Right now this information remains unconfirmed by the developer directly, but given the fact that Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 had similar framerate locks on PC it is likely that Dark Souls 3 will continue this trend.

Unfortunately the plan is to keep the framerate locked at 30fps but nothing is yet confirmed from what I’m aware of.

In the past both Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 have been able to have their framerates unlocked to 60FPS, so hopefully Dark Souls 3 will have a similar fix.

The game will require 8GB of RAM to play and a 64-bit OS, which is a significant leap from previous games in the franchise. On the GPU side things are a little bit more reasonable, requiring a HD 6870 or a GTX 465 as it's minimum, "you died" specs and a GTX 750 or an HD 7850 in the games recommended "You Died, But That's a Pretty Nice PC You've Got There" spec.

The game will require a quad core/thread CPU, which is something that is common for a modern title. Right now we do not know if a overclockerd Dual core will be enough to play or even run this game.

The "You Died" spec:

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1 64bit, Windows 8.1 64bit Windows 10 64bit
  • Processor: AMD A8 3870 3.6 Ghz or Intel Core  i3 2100 3.1Ghz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 / ATI Radeon TM HD 6870
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 50 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX 11 sound device

The "You Died, But That's a Pretty Nice PC You've Got There" spec:

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1 64bit, Windows 8.1 64bit Windows 10 64bit
  • Processor: AMD FX 8150 3.6 GHz or Intel Core i7 2600 3.4 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, ATI Radeon HD 7850
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 50 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX 11 sound device

The game looks like it has also received a nice upgrade in graphical fidelity when compared to previous Dark Souls games, which is something that the series sorely needed since it is now on current generation consoles exclusively.

Dark Souls has always been a hard and punishing game, going by the "if at first you don't succeed, DIE, DIE and DIE again" motto, so this game is certainly not for the faint of heart.

Update - We have received confirmation from From Software themselves that the PC version of Dark Souls 3 will be able to run at 60FPS on PC, which is great to hear. It seems that the member or Bandai Namco support staff was incorrect in their statement.
