Dying Light Introduces Nvidia PCSS Shadows

Dying Light has introduced Nvidia PCSS (Percentage Closer Soft Shadows) in a new patch for the game and will soon add an option to the game for users to disable the games Chromatic Aberration Option.

PCSS offers improved shadow accuracy and softens shadow as the distance in increased between the casting object and and the shadow itself, allowing the shadows to be much more representative of real life shadows.

In a future patch the game will be also be receiving the much requested option to disable Chromatic Aberration, a graphical effect which is considered by many to be unnecessary and in some cases (when overused) can cause eye strain or headaches. It is great to see that Techland is finally listening to their playerbase and adding this option, as I personally dislike this visual effect.

We are currently working to make the Chromatic Aberration a toggle in the game’s options. It will be available in the upcoming patch (no ETA yet).

Patching more advanced graphical options into a game over a year after the game's original release, not just enhancing the games graphical fidelity for existing users but also giving users yet another reason to purchase Dying Light's new Enhanced Edition.

If you want to see the performance of Dying light before the release of this game patch you can look our GPU performance overview of the title here and you can download Nvidia's new Game Ready Driver for this update here.

I'm really looking forward to the Chromatic Aberration option, It's horrible, There's a mod out to remove it but it breaks every now and then.Quote

Indeed, chromatic aberration just makes the game look worse. I can't wait to disable it.

I also don't like PCSS, I actually prefer the sharper shadows lol.

Part of me wants to retest the game with PCSS, but I really don't want too.Quote

I'd wait to re-test it until you can toggle CA Quote

Yes! The sooner I have the option to turn that god awful effect off the better. Modding it out is like turning HD mode on but since the latest expansion you risk getting a VAC ban if you're playing online. Plus you can't join any games unless they too are running the same mod, so it's hardly ideal....Quote
