Elite: Dangerous - Have we found the next Crysis?

Elite: Dangerous has now been added to Steam

Elite: Dangerous has now been added to , so anyone who was putting off buying this game due to it only being available on it's own dedicated launcher now has no excuses.

Frontier Developments has confirmed that the Steam release will have "no functional difference" between it and the version available on the game's website and that both can be played together online. Right now the game is priced at £39.99 on Steam

Elite Dangerous has became an instant classic to many of our users over on the OC3D forums, having watched many streams of this game and having seen many of the phenomenal looking screenshots splattered all over the web it is easy to say that this game is a real looker.

Getting onto Steam may not be as hard as it used to be, but the ease at which gamers can purchase and install games there has a very large affect on the sale of many PC games, though this also results in Valve taking a large slice of the pie for hosting it on it's service. Personally I do like having all my games in one place, making this steam release a new reason to buy the game, now that I do not have to use a dedicated site to buy and download the game and can buy it on Steam like most of my other games.

I wonder if this means in the future, those of us already using the launcher, if we must start using steam? Like they give us a key and we redeem it and just log back in through steam then the launcher and just continue where we left off?Quote
