Facebook Ditches Flash Video

Facebook has ditched Flash Video, replacing it with HTML5 by default, making the vase majority of videos on the Internet flash free, with video players using flash shrinking by the month.

Not only did launching the HTML5 video player make development easier, but it also improved the video experience for people on Facebook. Videos now start playing faster. People like, comment, and share more on videos after the switch, and users have been reporting fewer bugs. People appear to be spending more time with video because of it.

Flash as a brand has became highly toxic to Adobe, having already been removed from Adobe’s creative tools. now on Facebook both their ads and their videos no longer use Flash, though many games on the social network still require it to function.

Now without flash videos Facebook will operate faster and with less issues, which is certainly a good thing for users of the service.
