Future Intel chipsets are rumoured to have integrated WLAN controllers

Intel's future 300-series chipsets are rumoured to have integrated WLAN controllers and USB 3.1 (Gen 2) connectivity, giving the 300-series chipset some nice additional features over Intel's existing 100-series chipset motherboards.

Right now it is unknown if Intel's 300-series chipset will be used with a new CPU socket, or if it will be a new LGA 1151 socket. This will likely depend on whether or not Intel plans on releasing their next generation hardware (after Kaby Lake) on a new CPU socket.

Adding wireless features and additional USB 3.1 connectivity to their 300-series chipset will take away the requirements for motherboards to use 3rd party controllers, giving consumers more functionality with basic models. This change will be most beneficial to notebooks and other portable PCs, which mostly use wireless LAN for internet connectivity.

Right now it is unknown what new features Intel plans on adding to their new 200-series of LGA 1151 motherboards, though it will likely be similar to the change in feature set that we have seen with Intel's 8 and 9 series chipsets.
