Game Director hints at a standalone version of COD: Modern Warfare Remastered

Raven Software's David Pellas has hinted at a standalone version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered, though at launch the game will be limited to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition owners.

While a standalone version has not been announced, the fact that he mentions purchases of Modern Warfare Remastered separately indicates that a standalone version is coming. The multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will only feature 10 of the most popular maps from the original release, though 6 more maps are coming to the game as free DLC after launch.

What we announced before today was that we were going to offer 10 maps on launch, and that’s still true. The announcement today is that the six remaining maps we are actually going to be delivering to anyone who purchases Modern Warfare Remastered, anyone who owns it or a version of Infinite Warfare that comes with it, they’re going to get all 16 of the maps for no additional cost.

The new version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare will be coming with every pre-order of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's Legacy Edition, with no officially announced standalone version. The new version of the game will be made by Raven Software, an Activision-owned developer that previously worked on Call of Duty free-to-play, a game that was only available to the Asian market.

Right now we do not know if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's remaster will get a standalone release but a standalone version seems likely after a period of exclusivity for Call of Duty Infinite Warfare owners.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will release on November 4th on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

I cancelled my pre-order this morning on a whim as I had decided I'd get more out of Forza Horizon 3 than a bundle with a remaster of one of my favourite games ever and a title I'm really not fussed about.

If this turns out to be true I'll be very happy as I'd buy the remaster alone at £20 on day one.Quote

Probably wouldn't buy it. I'd rather a remaster version of BFBC2 get a remaster only so people remember about it and more people play it.Quote
