Gears of War: Ultimate Edition now has an unlocked framerate option

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has now been updated to support an unlocked framerate. This update comes one day after Microsoft launched a new update for Windows 10 that allowed UWP applications to support an unlocked framerate, making Gears of War ultimate Edition the first UWP application to support an unlocked framerate as well as FreeSync and G-Sync.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition's title update 5 also adds an integrated FPS counter to the game, which allows the player to know exactly what their framerate is while playing the game. This is a very useful tool right now as at the time of writing it is very difficult to run UWP applications with an external FPS overlay tool.

UWP Applications will be able to unlocked framerates after today

(Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is expected to be updated to support unlocked framerates later this week)

Windows 10 will need to be updated to support unlocked framerates with UWP applications. This update is available to download directly here.

Below are the patch notes for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition title update 5:

- Added v-sync toggle to video options. Toggle “off” to not be limited by your monitors refresh rate.

- Added frame rate limit selector to video options. Use to reduce your frame rate if you are getting too much tearing, or choose unlimited to let the game render as fast as possible.

- Added anisotropic filtering setting to video options.

- Added FPS counter toggle to video options.

- Fixed a bug where post processing could become disabled.

- Fixed a bug where PSO’s could be created on the fly instead of read from the cache, causing hitches.
