Halo's Forge map editor is coming to Windows 10

Halo's Forge map editor will be coming to Windows 10 later this year, allowing Halo players to edit maps on the PC for the Xbox One version of the game.

This editor will be available on the Windows 10 store for free and allow Halo fans to edit maps at higher resolutions, with more precise mouse and keyboard controls and allow friends to come in and test your new build on the PC.

Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re bringing this same spirit of creation and collaboration to the PC later this year with Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition for Windows 10. Best of all? It will be absolutely free.

Halo's Forge map editor comes to Windows 10

Below are a few PC exclusive features that will be available on the PC version of Forge - Halo 5: Guardian's Edition.

  • - Keyboard & Mouse Support – For the first time ever, Forgers will have the option of using a keyboard & mouse allowing for more precision control than ever.
  • - Increased Resolution – Support for multiple resolutions including 4k.
  • - Test and Play with Friends – Enlist the help of Friends to help build, test, and play your Forge creations on Windows 10.
  • - Build on Windows 10 and Publish to Xbox One – Experiences built on Windows 10 can be published to and played on Xbox One, opening the doors for countless new experiences to be enjoyed by players all over the world.

With the ability to build and supposedly test/play your new Halo 5 Forge maps on PC, many PC gamers will be no doubt wondering how far off Microsoft are from actually releasing a new Halo game on the PC platform, as testing a Halo 5 map on the PC is at least a step towards a possible PC port/release.

At this time, Microsoft has not announced when Forge - Halo 5: Guardian's Edition will be coming to PC, but we expect to learn a lot more at E3.

I've got Halo 1 and 2 for PC, Not official versions as I couldn't buy them through the Windows store or anywhere else.

Would love to play 3, 4, 5 and Reach but I'm not spending 300 quid on a console and then 20 quid on each game.

Now I'd happily pay 20 quid for each game on PC though even if it was through the Windows store.Quote

Halo must really be selling Xbones since they're being this stubborn about exclusivity. I wouldn't even mind it if they kept the last 2-3 games on Xbox only; I'd still buy the rest of them.Quote
