Imagination Technologies is now for sale

Imagination Technologies has put itself up for sale, preparing for when Apple officially ends its GPU licencing deal with the UK-based GPU maker.

Right now Imagination has an active legal dispute with Apple, with the company believing that Apple would be unable to create their own GPU technology within their planned 15-month to 2-year timeframe without stealing Imagination Technologies' IP/technology. At this time many expect Imagination Technologies to sue Apple in the near future.

There are reports that several interested parties have already expressed interest in "a potential acquisition of the whole Group" and that the company is already engaged in preliminary discussions with potential bidders. At this time Imagination says that there can be "no certainty" that a sale will take place.

At the time of writing, Apple provides Imagination Technologies with over half of their revenue, with Apple's recent announcement to ditch the company causing their share prices to drop by over 70% within 24-hours. Imagination currently wishes to change their agreement with Apple to create new licensing and royalty contracts with, though so far there has been no success in this venture.
