Could Konami have been any less creative?

Konami announces their first post-Kojima Metal Gear game

Konami has announced their first post-Kojima Metal Gear game, attempting to prove to Metal Gear fans the world over that the series is not dead and that the company has not left the gaming arena.

Below we have the announcement trailer for Metal Gear Survive, a Co-op Survival game that takes place in an alternate universe to the main Metal Gear series. This game will not include Snake, Big Boss or any characters that fans know and love, or do anything to forward or even retell the story of Metal Gear.

In essence, this game looks like a quick cash cow, using the existing Metal Gear Solid V Fox Engine and making a game which does not require much effort when it comes to writing or even staying true to the Metal Gear story or stealth gameplay origins.

In my opinion, if Konami wanted to redeem themselves in the eyes of the fans they needed to create a mainline Metal Gear Solid game, even if it was just a retelling of some of the original games like Metal Gear Solid or Metal Gear Solid II: Sons of Liberty.

A modern day remake of Metal Gear Solid using the Fox Engine would have been a great entry point into the series for new gamers as well as allow Konami to create a new Metal Gear Solid game without disrupting the rather complex Metal Gear timeline.

All in all, Metal Gear Survive has done very little to spark my interest, using ideas which have been used by so many developers in the past that it is almost unbelievable that Konami has lacked the creativity to try something new.

WTS is this?Is Konami the Developer or are they just publishing? Metal Gear Rising was pretty fun despite being a completely different game to traditional MGS titles but that was developed by Platinum Games.Quote

Heaven forbid any of the largest and oldest studios come up with any original material.

On the flip side, financially it makes sense since everyone eats those other things up. If there wasn't a market, they wouldn't make it.

Sooner or later we will all have to get ultra wide aspect ratio monitors to even see the titles of games. COD IIXIXIXIXIXIIIIVVVVVVVVMMMMXXX zombie edition! All new pixel in the lower right corner! See if you can spot it! Seconds of fun!Quote
