Microsoft Cancel the Development of Fable Legends

Lionhead Studios has officially closed down

After a 6 weeks consultation period with employees, Lionhead Studios has officially closed down. The UK based developer has faced closure ever since Microsoft Games had announced the cancellation of Fable legends and a massive downsizing in Europe, which has already closed down Press Play Studios in Denmark.

Below is a statement from a Microsoft Spokesperson announcing the official closure of Lionhead Studios.

We can confirm that after much consideration over the six week consultation period with Lionhead employees, we have reached the decision to close Lionhead Studios. We have nothing but heart-felt thanks for the team at Lionhead for their significant contributions to Xbox and the games industry.

Lionhead Studios has officially closed down today

Lionhead was started by Peter Molyneux in 1996 and had become a much loved a much-loved studio over its 20-year lifespan, releasing the popular Fable Series as well as Black & White.

It makes us sad to see gaming studios close down, especially when it leaves talented individuals without a job. Hopefully, those affected by this decision will be able to quickly find work elsewhere with another developer or elsewhere within Microsoft.
