Mirror's Edge Catalyst Story trailer and Closed Beta signups

Compared to the original Mirror's Edge, Catalyst is going to be much more story based, giving some extra context and motivation to run through the City of Glass and take on the oppressive regime that is in charge of it.

The original Mirrors Edge was defined by many gamers as a great game, depute the game's rather simple concept and visual design. Mirror's Edge Catalyst has been made from the start to be something that is much bigger and better than it's predecessor, which hopefully means that the title will have expanded on the good points of the original, rather than simply taking the core game and stapling extra gameplay and a storyline on the side.

Right now we know very little about this title, having not received many trailers or much in the way of hype up or discussion until now, though hopefully we will learn much more as the game enters it's beta phase.

Faith Connors is a self-assured thrill-seeker and one of the best Runners in the city of Glass. But Faith’s carefree days are numbered. As she crosses paths with the evil Gabriel Kruger and the city’s oppressive Conglomerate, Faith finds herself running for something far more important. Playing Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, you’ll experience a rich storyline with a heroine-to-be fighting for both the city and herself. Use the fluid movement and your combat skills to be the Catalyst of change.

Now gamers can sign up for access to the closed beta of the game, giving them a chance to play the title before it's launch on May 24th, though signing up to the beta will not automatically give you access.

Some of you will be able to step into the shoes of Faith before our run towards the May 24 release is complete. We’re happy to announce that a Closed Beta for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is coming, and you can now sign up for a chance to be part of it.

The Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Closed Beta will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Origin for PC. Stay tuned for more info on the Closed Beta, when it’s coming, and other details.

Why is it called an "closed" alpha?... and what happened to "beta"?...
What's wrong with open beta?... Or are they like something so obvious that I've just facepalmed myself here?...Quote

Are you genuinely confused, or are you just pointing out the confusing mix of the words alpha and beta in this article?Quote

A comes before B, therefore Alpha, Beta. See here for reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_alphabet

Open & Closed refers to how its tested, so closed testing might be limited to 100 people to test game mechanics and optimisations, open testing would be for things like server load or to test PvP or multi player situations where you need few thousand people.Quote
