Need for Speed PC System Requirements Announced

Need for Speed PC Launch Trailer

Electronic Arts and Ghost Games have released the launch trailer for the PC version of Need For Speed, showcasing an unlocked framerate, 4K support and wheel support.

The developers had this to say last month when they had announced the Need for Speed PC requirements and supported steering wheels.

Last week was an exciting time for us as we lifted the lid on the PC version of Need for Speed, coming March 17. Amongst all the excitement and discussion you've been having about 4K visuals, Manual Transmission, Wheel Support and the unlocked framerate, there's one topic we see popping up with some frequency. Below you'll find not only the minimum and recommended system specs but also the list of supported steering wheels.

In my opinion I believe that is is huge progress to see a game not just release a set of requirements for the game, but also tell us the settings, resolution and framerate that they expect it to run at, which very useful information.

Here we can see that a CPU with 4 threads and a GTX 750Ti or a HD 7850 can be expected to run at 720p 30FPS and a higher end system with a GTX 970 or an R9 290 can be expected to run at 1080p 60 at high settings.

Sadly it seems that this game is going to be very demanding, needing a GTX 970 or an R9 290 for playing this game at a resolution of 1080p. With these specifications I think that it is safe to say that this game will not run very well at higher resolutions on current hardware, especially at 4K.

Minimum Requirements for 720p30 at low settings:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-4130 or equivalent with 4 hardware threads
  • Memory: 6GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB, AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB, or equivalent DX11 compatible GPU with 2GB of memory
  • Hard Drive: 30 GB free space

Recommended Requirements for 1080p60 at high settings:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4690 or equivalent with 4 hardware threads
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB, AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB, or equivalent DX11 compatible GPU with 4GB of memory
  • Hard Drive: 30 GB free space

We also have a list of supported steering wheels for the PC platform.

  • - Logitech G27
  • - Logitech G29
  • - Logitech G920
  • - Thrustmaster TX
  • - Thrustmaster T150
  • - Thrustmaster T300
  • - Thrustmaster T500
  • - Fanatec CSR

Deffo aimed at a young demographic but Im pretty sure thats the target audience anyways.

Looks like a game to mess about with mates on a friday night with a beer in rather than something youd want to spend a week off work playing.Quote

Yeah, not sure why they've bothered with wheel support for something with what looks like pretty gash driving physics (on purpose of course) I think this is a pad only game really.Quote

It's actually a pretty fun game. It's good to see they've added manual gears but bonet/cockpit cam would have been good too.Quote

Wish they had the driving type physics of NFSU2, A lot less arcadey than this and more fast and furious type feel.Quote
