Nvidia confirms that the GTX 1000 series' issues when using an HTC Vive when using DisplayPort will be fixed with a future driver update.

Right now users of the GTX 1080 and 1070 must connect their GPU to the HTC Vive via HDMI, which may be an issue for some users given the fact that the majority of GTX 1000 series GPUs only have a single HDMI 2.0 port and the fact that HDMI is a popular connection method for 1080p monitors and most TVs.

Reports of this incompatibility came from Tom's Hardware, who have tested this for themselves after reading reports of this issue on the Nvidia Geforce Forums. This is hugely disappointing as Nvidia's GTX 1000 series GPUs are heavily marketed towards VR users, leaving many consumers simply to assume that adapting from DisplayPort to HDMI works.   Nvidia confirms that the GTX 1000 series' VR issues will be fixed with a new driver

Right now it is expected that this new VR fixing GPU driver will be released by Nvidia before the end of the week.
