Nvidia HairWorks 1.1 Demo

Nvidia's HairWorks may have some bad press, but you have to admit that it looks great. Have a look at Nvidia HairWorks 1.1

This HairWorks demo was created by a developer called Tarkan Sarim, who has created this real time long hair simulation which simulates roughly 500K strands of hair. Simply put this puts everything we have ever seen from HairWorks or TressFX so far to shame, though I doubt that any game would run well with such accurate hair simulations going on.

This demo was recorded using Nvidia's Shadowplay and was using a GTX 980 to run in real time. A video showing the demo can be found below.

NVIDIA HairWorks enables users to simulate and render fur/hair to provide a truly interactive game experience. The technology originates from multiple simulation and rendering technologies that NVIDIA has developed in the past. This combines rendering technologies for human hair (GDC 2008) as well as various simulation technologies shown in multiple events (Fur Demo - GDC2012). To make the hair/fur technologies a product, NVIDIA engineers have put together these existing technologies and added new techniques to ensure a smooth pipeline for a variety of characters.

There is no doubt in my mind that advanced hair physics will become more and more popular in the future, as AMD TressFX 3.0 will be introduced in Deus Ex, Mankind Divided and HairWorks will continue to be implemented into Nvidia GameWorks titles. Hopefully as things move forward more efficient versions of these hair simulation techniques will become available, as at present the hardware requirements for these techniques are often not worth the visual gains.

We need this in WWE games, as they are moving on so well in the graphics department but the hair just looks terrible.

Damn that is impressive. I'm glad new features are coming out that not only look great but are also demanding thus justify spending lots of money on new gpus.Quote
