NVIDIA VR Headset Patent Found

It has only been a few days since Nvidia announced their GameWorks VR toolset, but Now it looks like Nvidia is considering making their own VR headset.

In the images below we can see that Nvidia has patented a VR display which has twin screens and 6 cameras. While the patent does not define define what any of these camera's do, it we know that two will be facing forward, two will be facing down and one will be on the left side and one will be on the right side of the device.

It also looks like the display will include it's own CPU, memory, GPU and a network adaptor. It is likely that this will mean that this unit will have an integrated Tegra SoC, likely the Tegra X1 or a future iteration.

One handy feature an Nvidia Specific VR unit would have would be G-Sync, as visual tearing in a VR game would be very immersion breaking, making adaptive framerate technology a very appealing addition to any VR headset.

It is unknown if Nvidia will ever release their own headset, but if they could add on technologies like G-Sync to VR would that necessarily be a bad thing?

Not a chance. They would have to outsource so much work and production it would take years of R&D and be very pricey unless they went for OR patents and research which would then beg the question of why not just buy an OR?Quote
