Oculus Rift hits retail before Pre-Orders reach users

The Oculus Rift has become available at some retailers when bundled with PCs, leaving Kickstarter backers and day-1 Pre-orderers rightfully frustrated.

Right now people in the US have been able to purchase and receive Oculus Rift PC bundles, bypassing the huge waiting list for the device on the Oculus store, which currently has current Pre-orders backdated to August.

On Oculus Pre-orderer, who had ordered the device within the first 10 minutes of availability, had realised that he could buy an Oculus Rift Ready PC at Best buy and simply return the PC he jumped at the chance and had a shipping notification within hours, allowing him to cancel his Oculus Rift pre-order and receive an Oculus Rift much faster than he originally expected.

Figured it was maybe worth mentioning outside of the shipping thread - I pre-ordered the Oculus Rift the moment the pre-orders went up (I'm at the 7m 4s mark),

Like many of us I was getting impatient so for kicks, I pre-ordered a Microsoft Oculus Rift + PC bundle off the website yesterday (since like Best Buy you can just return the computer with no fuss). Lo and behold, I just got a shipment confirmation for the Rift - it's scheduled to arrive in the next couple of days.

Retailers receiving stock before the extremely large number of Pre-orderers has left members of the early VR community very angry at Oculus, which is understandable as they have almost waited a month since the Rift's launch and many of them expect to wait several more months before they receive their VR headsets.

To see retailers jumping the queue ahead of thousands of early pre-orderers and the Rift's Original Kickstarter backers has seen a lot of bad blood boil between the Oculus community and Oculus themselves, which when combined with the device's privacy concerns and certain restrictive aspect of the Oculus EULA has resulted in several users cancelling their Pre-orders in frustration.

Below are just some of the quotes from frustrated Oculus buyers, who understandably feel betrayed by the company.

This is the biggest slap in the face ever to early adopters and enthusiasts if I ever saw one

Another swift kick in the nuts to us early adopters from Oculus. Oculus must really really really hate their early adopters to keep treating us like f*cking garbage,
