Only 34% of PC gamers game at 1080p according to Steam's Monthly hardware survey, which is much lower than what many would expect.

1080p is still the resolution of choice however with the largest number of users, which is 34.72% of Steam's userbase.  1366x768 remains as Steam's second most popular resolution, though this is undoubtedly due to the influence of laptops.

Some other noteworthy resolution stats is that 1440x900 is used by 5.04% of Steam's users and 1440p is now used by more than 1% of Steam users, which goes to show how popular this resolution is becoming.

While 1080p is not used by the majority of PC gamers on Steam we need to remember that 1080p is still the most widely used resolution and that the are a significant number of people who use even higher resolutions.

Other noteworthy stats from Steam's hardware survey are that 8GB has now became the most popular amount of system memory, and that users with quad core systems are quickly catching up to the number of systems which use dual core CPUs, with dual cores taking up 48.26% and quad cores taking up 44.27% of Steam's userbase.

I think this is because of the surprising amount of people using Steam on cheaper laptops for very non-demanding games like LoL (not sure that's actually on Steam but you guys get what I'm going for) and all that stuff with a 1366x768 resolution.Quote

I would have thought 1440p would be quite a bit higher than 1% by now and I really feel for people on less than 1080p. Let alone the refresh rate. I can t go back from 1440p 120hz now.Quote

I wouldn't quite call 1.7% of Steam a significant amount of users (ignoring the 1920x1200 resolution as it is pretty much 1080p). The number of people above 1080p (1200p) is less then those still stuck on 1024x768.Quote
