Path of Exile will be receiving a CPU multi-threading update in the future, giving more than 2x the game performance in CPU bound scenarios.

This update will reduce the number of lost frames during play making the game much faster and more fluid, particularly during large battles.

This new multi-threading update will be fully implemented into Path of Exile version 2.4.0, though Grinding Gear Games does want to enable it as a toggleable option in version 2.3.0. This initial release of multi-threading into the game may introduce a few new bugs into Path of Exile, which is why it will be turned off by default in 2.3.0, though those who wish to try the newer version and potentially identify some potential issues will be free to do so.

Below is a video where Path of Exile's Technical Director,  Jonathan Rogers, talks about the new performance improvements that are coming in Path of Exile version 2.4.0.
