Pokemon Company confirms that the Nintendo NX will be a console/handheld hybrid

The CEO of the Pokemon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, has confirmed that the Nintendo NX will be a console/handheld hybrid in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

In his statement, Ishihara stated that Nintendo is trying to "change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a handheld device" and that the Pokemon Company plans on creating games fro this new platform.

This confirms many of the rumours that have been surrounding the Nintendo NX, which will act as a replacement for both the 3DS and the Wii U and is rumoured to be powered by a Nvidia made SoC.

Digital Foundry has reported that multiple sources have confirmed that existing development kits for the Nintendo NX will use Nvidia's Tegra X1 SoC, which is the same SoC that is currently used in the Nvidia Shield Android TV/console and Google's Pixel C tablet. It is likely that retail version of the Nintendo NX will use Nvidia SoCs that use the Pascal GPU architecture.

Rumor also has it that the Nintendo NX will be a cartridge based console, cartridges that are 32GB in size if Eurogamer is to be believed. This should be large enough for a lot of modern games but still smaller than a standard Blu-Ray disk.

Right now Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo NX, but not confirmed anything other than its mere existence. The new console is set to launch in March 2017.
