Portal Stories: VR will release on May 17th for free on Steam, bringing a brand new mini-campaign with whole new puzzles that have been designed with VR in mind.  It may not be made by Valve, but this Unreal Engine 4 Portal game will be available for free for All HTC Vive owners.

It may not be made by Valve, but this Unreal Engine 4 Portal game will be available for free for All HTC Vive owners who also own Portal 2.

While this game may not be made by the original creators of Portal, the developers of this title have already shown that they are very capable when it comes to making good games with the release of Portal Stories: Mel. This game will have a total of 10 new puzzles and contains a new story that is based in the portal Universe.

Portal Stories: VR builds on the foundations of the award winning Portal 2 modification Portal Stories: Mel. Portal Stories: VR has a brand new mini story set in the Portal Universe. It features 10 brand new puzzles, specifically designed to work using the 360 degrees room scale that SteamVR offers.

Below are the recommended system requirements for Portal Stories: VR, which are designed to match the minimum requirements of the HTC Vive.

RECOMMENDED:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel i5-4590
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD R9 390
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 1 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: Requires HTC Vive

Previously this game was to be released as a standalone experience, but due to the developers using the Portal franchise name and IP Valve had to step in and take measures to protect their IP, asking the developers to either change the name of the game or classify it as a Portal 2 mod, with the developers taking the later option.

Despite being an Unreal Engine 4 based game this game is classed as a Portal 2 mod, which means that only owners of Portal 2 on Steam will be able to play it.
