Pre-Orders for the Oculus Rift will start in 48 hours

Today, we’re excited to announce that pre-orders for Rift will open on Oculus.com at 8am Pacific Time on January 6! We’ll be sharing everything you need to know to order your Rift on Wednesday when pre-orders go live.

As a reminder, every Rift comes bundled with Lucky’s Tale by Playful, and we’re also including CCP’s EVE: Valkyrie for free with every pre-order!

This is going to be an exciting week for VR, so Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will be answering all your questions during a Reddit AMA this Wednesday, January 6 at 6pm Pacific Time. We look forward to hearing from you.

Stay tuned for more updates this week. We can’t wait to share what’s coming next!

Right now we do not know the pricing of the Oculus Rift will be and at the moment HTC is teasing a "Game Changing" upgrade they they have delayed the HTC Vive in order to implement, so right now I would not recommend Pre-Ordering the hardware, especially since we do not know exactly how many game will be compatible with the Oculus Rift at Launch.

You can join the discussion on the Oculus Rift Pre-orders going line in less than 48 Hours on the OC3D Forums.

I'm going to not buy one so they can charge whatever they like
In less than a years time it'll be outdated and for something that has no games out for it except tech demo's I really don't see a point in itQuote

Lmao not a chance. They've already said it will be too expensive for many, hinting at a stupid price.

Oddly I'm completely not interested, he says sarcastically.

Just another way to rinse cash from GPU sales for something I'd look completely stupid wearing and likely quite ill after long sessions.Quote

That's my biggest fear. I'll have to find someone with one to try once they come out.

I reckon it will be stupid money to start with. Probably a basic system of just the headset and then a controller enabled version later - if I recall correctly they ran into a snag with that recently. I'd say around console prices. $500-600 AUD,

If it's around $350-400 I'd be tempted to get one and risk a small loss on the second hand market if it makes me nauseous.Quote
