Project Spark has been removed from the Windows and Xbox One Stores

Microsoft has announced the "sunset" of Project Spark, removing the ability to download the application from the Windows and Xbox One Storefronts. This means that nobody new can gain access to Project Spark and the project is effectively dead.

Project spark is a user-friendly, 3D game development tool that was designed to be an easy entry into game development but the tool ultimately failed to become the big hit that Microsoft was expecting.

Thankfully Microsoft announced that there have been no layoffs as a result of the closure of the project, with many of the team members having already been moved to other projects within Microsoft games studios. Those who purchased the Project Spark Starter kit after October 2015 will be able to get a refund and receive credits on your Microsoft account.

For those currently using Project Spark Microsoft is keeping the online services on until August 12th, allowing the community to download and share their own creations until servers go offline.

You can join the discussion on the Closure of Project Spark on the OC3D Forums.
