Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind Titanfall, is making a new Star Wars game. In a blog post, the developer portrayed the project as a third-person action/adventure game. The development will be led by Stig Asmussen, who formerly directed the God of War franchise.

On the Respawn website, Asmussen speaks out his excitement for the unnamed Star Wars game: "I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Wars game," Asmussen writes. "On top of that, I get to do it at Respawn, a studio comprised of the most talented collection of game makers, creators, visionaries, and (most importantly) advocates for the player, that I have had the good fortune to work with. And we, like you all, have no shortage of Star Wars passion."

This unnamed Star Wars title is a part Electronic Art's licensing deal with Lucasfilm. With this, Respawn will join other EA-owned studios; Visceral Games, BioWare, DICE, Motive and Capital Games are all working on Star Wars-games as well.

"[We] promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet. Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics. Moving forward, we couldn’t ask for a better universe in which to continue this journey."

Asmussen ends his post with the following words: 'This is the chance of a lifetime.' Sadly, no real details about the upcoming Star Wars title were given. Perhaps we can expect to see some God of War influences, looking at Asmussen's background in the industry.

What are your wishes for Respawn's take on the Star Wars universe? Let us know.

Interesting.. so long as they keep it fresh and stick to Star Wars lore, no complaints from me.Quote

Asmussen explicitly promised they'd stay true to the Star Wars legacy, so it should be alright.

I really hope it'll be a God of War-like hack 'n slasher with lightsabers. That concept has limitless potential imo!Quote

I would like that too. I kinda want a star wars game that doesn't focus on the Empire/Rebellion/First Order etc. I want something that's focused around Jedi Temples.Quote

Agreed. Should be a nice change of pace, especially considering there are like five studios working on Star Wars games atm. I wouldn't mind something like the cancelled Star Wars 1313 either, though.Quote

Yeah everything seems to be about the movies so something different or else it'll just end up competing with other SW games for sales instead of addressing different genre's. I am pretty sure 1313 got picked up again? Unless I'm mistaken for something else. That game is hard to follow!Quote
