Oculus Runtime 1.4 update breaks ReVive HTC Vive compatibility tool

ReVive Update Bypasses Oculus Rift DRM check

The ReVive compatibility hack has become very popular among HTC Vive users, allowing them to play Oculus Rift Exclusive titles on their HMD and even allowing them to fully integrate Oculus Rift exclusive Games into SteamVR.

Oculus did not take kindly to games on their platform working on the HTC Vive Headset, deciding to bring in DRM (Digital Rights Management) to Oculus store with their Oculus Runtime 1.4 update. This update prevented games from running unless an Oculus Rift Headset was connected to PC, preventing VR users who only owned the HTC Vive from playing games from the Oculus store, even if they had already bought and paid for their Oculus software.

Now with version 0.6 of ReVive, HTC Vive users can now completely bypass Oculus' DRM, restoring ReVive's functionality. Sadly bypassing Oculus' DRM will also enable potential piracy on the platform. The creator of ReVive states that he does not support Piracy, but breaking the functionality of ReVive forces him to create a way to bypass their DRM.

This release should bypass the DRM on all Oculus Home games. Thus restoring the compatibility that Revive had before the Oculus Runtime 1.4 update. There is no more need for the RevivePlatform DLLs, you will need to remove these DLLs again or else you will get code signature errors.

I still do not support piracy, do not use this library for pirated copies.

ReVive Update Bypasses Oculus Rift DRM check

While Oculus has every right to protect their platform at this time there is not much financial sense for Oculus to prevent HTC Vive owners from using the Oculus Store, after all, they are extra customers who are more than willing to spend some money on the latest VR experiences.

Right now it seems that this may be the start of an arms race between the Oculus Store and HTC Vive users, where increasingly strict and complex DRM may be used to prevent ReVive compatibility layer from functioning properly, which will no doubt frustrate a lot of VR users.

I did see this video earlier today. I do like Boogies videos, but not a fan of his Francis videos myself. I see the point behind the character, but can't stand it most of the time.Quote
