Samsung's fastest 4K monitor is now available in the UK

At CES 2022, Samsung revealed its Odyssey Neo G8 gaming monitor, a 4K 240Hz Quantum Mini LED screen that offers users peak brightness levels of 2,000 nits and high contrast ratios with the screen's 1,196 local dimming zones.

With the Odyssey Neo G8, Samsung promises to deliver high quality HDR, ultra high refresh rate gaming, sharp 4K detail, and high quality VRR support with both FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync Compatibility certifications.

Now, Samsung's 32-inch Odyssey Neo G8 display has become available in the UK, with Overclockers UK listing the screen at £1,298.99. That's not bad for a 4K Mini LED monitor of this size, especially after considering this screen's 240Hz refresh rate.

Samsung's Odyssey Neo G8 supports DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, and Display Stream Compression (DSC). The monitor also sports a 1000R curvature, and supports Samsung's CoreSync Lighting technology.

Below is what Samsung said about its Odyssey Neo G8 at CES 2022.

    Odyssey Neo G8

As the world's first monitor to feature a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) 1000R curved screen with 240 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time (GtG), Odyssey Neo G8 32" (Model Name: G85NB) is set to open a new chapter in gaming monitor innovation, offering razor-sharp performance for even the most dedicated PC gamers. Its performance matches its stunning picture quality featuring Quantum Mini LEDs, Quantum HDR 2000 with a 2,000nit peak brightness and a million-to-one static contrast ratio, bringing out the most subtle details for increased world building and immersion.

The new Odyssey Neo G8 is built with a similar design language as the Odyssey Neo G9, offering a sleek white exterior that stands out even when it's turned off. Beautiful colors leap off the screen into a user's real environment with CoreSync lighting. The core lighting found on the backside of the monitor automatically detects colors on the screen and projects them in real life to create a deeper sense of immersion.

4K at 240Hz

While 4K 240Hz refresh rates seem excessive for modern titles, the latest graphics cards are capable of delivering high refresh rate gameplay at 4K, with many games exceeding the 4K 120Hz/144Hz resolutions/refresh rates offered by many high-end 4K screens. Add on upscaling features like DLSS and FSR to many titles, and high refresh rate 4K gaming becomes something that is very achievable with many modern games.

With many modern console games targeting 4K at 120Hz, screens like the Odyssey NEO G8 will allow PC gamers to target even higher levels of image quality and clarity. This will be specially true one next-generation graphics cards arrive.

I actually just got mine this weekend, after my delivery date being pushed back several times because I pre-ordered late. Loving the monitor so far, but the plastic ring at the back is annoying to get on (and I don't use the lighting) so I left it off. The insides of monitor itself can get quite hot; I pulled out a HDMI cable and metal part was very hot.Quote

I understand this product needs to exist. But I don't know why would anyone buy it. Beta testing and all. GPUs can't run 4K 144Hz, and 240Hz is years away.Quote
