Sony's PlayStation division accounts for 78% of the companies profits in Q1 2016. Sony's game and network services division generated $3.2 billion in revenue for the company, which is up 14.5 percent over the same period in 2015. 

The success of the playStation Division has been attributed to strong software sales, rather than profits made from selling new PS4 hardware. Sony's profits are down 42% when compared to this period last year, making Sony's PlayStation Division almost solely responsible for the companies profits. 

 

      This significant increase was primarily due to a significant increase in PS4 software sales including sales through the [PlayStation Network], partially offset by the impact of foreign exchange rates and decreases in PlayStation 3 hardware and software sales,

Sony is expecting that they will be able to generate more income from the PlayStation Division moving forward, especially with PlayStation VR and several other major releases on the horizon. With recent changes in foreign exchange rates, Sony has reduced their expected revenue for the PlayStation Division down from $16.2 billion to $15.35 billion.
