Steam App Update, Faster and Less Power Hungry

Steam's Android app has just received an Update, giving the app a new material design, faster loading times and a smaller hit on your device's battery life.

Until Now Valve's Steam app for Android has not been very good, it has had background battery drain issues, a lackluster UI and can run very slowly on some older android devices.

The Steam App had made a big leap over the past few days, from version 1.1 to 2.0, offering a revamped UI, fixes the apps battery drain issues, used higher resolution images and even syncs Steam Chat with your PC.  Below you can see a screenshot comparison between the old and new versions of the app.

Below is the patch notes for the New Steam App.

  • - Changing from one screen to another is faster
  • - Will not use battery when it is inactive
  • - Will not log in unexpectedly
  • - If possible, when resumed, the application will return to the screen it was on
  • - Startup screen can be set
  • - Chat history from other devices is available
  • - Chat history for offline friends is available
  • - Navigation menu has links to Inventory, Library, going offline for chat and logging out
  • - Material design, higher res images, simplified settings, faster on older devices
  • - Other fixes

All in all the new Steam App is much easier to navigate and use, and has a much more modern Steam aesthetic. Right now it is hard to tell if Valve has further plans to develop their mobile app, but it would be good if In home Streaming could work on android based tablets.

Is there even a point in using the app? It's not like you can play games. Just talk to friends mainly but I would rather send a text then use an app for thatQuote
