Techland is becoming a global publisher

Techland, the developers of Dying Light, Dead Island, and Call of Juarez has now announced that they are planning to become a global publisher, with plans to work with developers to create unconventional games with great entertainment value.

As a developer, Techland found huge success with Dying Light and it's The Following Expansion, successfully marketing and promoting their game with their own dedicated internal team. Now Techland plans on lending their expertise to other developers, planning to work with a new gamer focused philosophy that will work to create unconventional and entertaining games, rather than grinding the sequel mill or simply creating different versions of existing popular releases.

Below is a message from Techland's CEO, Pawel Marchewka, when they made the announcement yesterday that they were becoming a global publisher.

As a developer, we have worked with many renowned publishers in the past so we know first-hand what makes these kinds of collaborations efficient and satisfying for both parties. After the successful promotional campaigns for Dying Light and Dying Light: The Following, led by our own dedicated team, we believe this is the perfect time to use everything we’ve learned and help other developers.

We believe in a flexible and open publishing philosophy, based on respect for the players. We will encourage and financially support developers through investing in bold, unconventional games with great entertainment value.

Our goal is to release 2 major multiplatform titles, and 4 in digital distribution each year. We’re already scanning the market for opportunities and we’ll announce the first game to be released under Techland Publishing soon

Hopefully, Techland will be making further announcements over the next few weeks, hopefully revealing the first game that the company will be publishing. Do you think Techland has what it takes to make it as a publisher?

Do it think they have what it takes? Sure. Many companies do. But is there a lot that goes on with being a publisher. I just don't think they have the financial support yet for such a task.Quote
