The Oculus Rift has received a permanent price decrease to £399

Oculus has given their Rift headsets a £100 price decrease, bringing the headset down to £399 in the UK making the Oculus Ultimate Bundle, which includes Touch motion controls, £200 cheaper than the HTC Vive and prices the Rift similarly to most of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10 Mixed Reality Headsets.

At this time it is unknown why Oculus has decided to decrease the sale price of their Rift headset, be it lacklustre sales after the end of their "Summer of Rift" campaign or to attempt to undercut Microsoft's Windows 10 Mixed Reality headsets before they make it to market.

Today's bundle will ship with six free games, including Robo Recall, an action-packed VR First Person Shooter, the cheerful 3D platformer Lucky's Tale, Dragon Front the immersive exclusive-to-VR trading card game, the VR drawing tool Quill, the multiplayer shooter Dead and Buried, the popular VR demo Toybox as well as Medium, which allows you to shape, model, paint and create your very own objects within VR.

  • Bundle:
    1x Oculus Rift VR headset
1x IR camera sensor with stand
2x Oculus Touch motion controllers (includes 1x AA per controller)
1x IR camera sensor with stand (2,5 m cable length)
    1x Rockband guitar mount
    1x Various accessories
    6x Free games

The Oculus Rift has received a permanent price decrease to £399

It will be interesting to see how well Microsoft's Windows 10 Mixed Reality headsets compete with the Oculus Rift at this price point, given Microsoft's use of an "inside-out" tracking system rather than use the Rift's camera-based system, which is theoretically more accurate.

The Oculus Rift also contains lower resolution displays than many of Microsoft's Windows 10 Mixed Reality headsets, making the comparison even more interesting.

Well worth it especially if you're an Elite Dangerous player, First time I played ED with the Rift I was gobsmacked and the first time I came out of frame shift into an asteroid field I genuinely said "Holy ****" truly an amazing experience.Quote

I've not played Elite Dangerous in over 8 months, I' d love to play Elite on VR but I dare not in case I loose my Python on the first outing. I might have to play in the sidewinder for a while to get used to the saitek flight stick before i take the big boy out.Quote

Sadly it's one of the few amazing experiences you will get on VR. I don't like that sort of game wish I did tbh.Quote

All of the full fat games I tried (like Dirt Rally) looked awful and gave me a headache.

Is it good clarity wise? because the backgrounds in Dirt were so low rent....Quote
