The Sapphire RX 480 will have replaceable fans

This article was possible thanks to information provided by Tolemac on the OC3D Forums.

The Sapphire RX 480 will have removable/replaceable fans to allow the GPU to be easily cleaned and potentially replaced when broken.

While Sapphire has not officially stated that users will be able to purchase replacement fans when required, Sapphire has stated that they will "have more news specifically on this matter coming up soon" when asked about it on Facebook.

This also opens up the option for Sapphire to release upgraded fans after release, potentially with different colour options or perhaps with clear blades for LED illumination.

Swapping fans has never been as easy as with SAPPHIRE's Quick Connect.

Sapphire already announced that their RX 480 Nitro GPU, which has an 8-pin PCIe power connector, giving this GPU additional power for increased overclocking headroom.

The Sapphire RX 480 Nitro will also feature a DVI connection alongside dual DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 connections and dual HDMI 2.0 connections.

We have already heard from Overclockers UK that they will be stocking this GPU soon and that they will be sold for the price of around £249.99 here in the UK, which is the same as a lot of the reference RX 480 8GB models.

Pretty cool feature. Though it was never that hard to take them off in the first place. I think it's most convenient since you can just pull it off really quick and clean the heatsink under it instead of completely taking it apart.

Although I like the idea of maybe aftermarket fans for it.Quote

Aye one screw as appose to 3 and a new proprietary connector, it wasn't that difficult before but it's a step in the right direction just hope they stick to it rather than have it as a one off.Quote

If I get this model I'll probably get a few spare fans just in case. But replaceable fans is something that should become industry standard. You can replace fans on pretty much anything else.Quote

I have heard that 80% of Sapphires RMA's are nothing more than fan related. By going this route, the user is not totally down while they ship their card in, have it inspected, and then wait for it to be shipped back. They wanted their customers to be able to keep using the product without the hassle of shipping and waiting.Quote
